Since jumpers are zero ohms could one just use solder bridges. I am not really equipt to do SMD stuff

You could, but soldering the jumpers is easier than you think: tape the jumper on the board, keeping one side of the jumper free and solder it like you would with any component. Remove the tape, and solder the other side.

Do which ever you prefer. Solder bridges are perfectly fine if you like. They are also quite easy to remove :)
