I have completed the Opus Dac/sdif transceiver combo, and instead of a signal, I hear only clicking sounds. I have used the default jumper settings suggested in the manual, and all leds are green. Any troubleshooting advice?

According to the 2.0 Docs, your switches are configured right (I have v1). However, I can't see the cables from the DAC output. Are you shorting the V- output of the DAC to GND? In Single ended, the V- outputs are either floating or tied to gnd with a resistor (10K-100K) to mimic the input impedance of your next stage... Can't see anything wrong with the setup...

Thanks for your reply, glt. I actually have the DAC -output tied to xlr pin 1 and cable shield via an adapter cable I kludged together. I have a differential preamp on the breadboard, but I have not tried it with the opus. Perhaps I should try this more proper combo and see if it solves my problem.
While on the subject of grounding, I have the neg spidf input isolated from the metal chassis. Actually, the only ground connected to chassis is the IEC green wire. Being an experienced tube DIYer, my inclination would be to also ground the power supply and signal returns to chassis. Am I off base here?

Out should be tied to Pin 3 of the XLR connector, not Pin 1. Pin 1: Ground, Pin 2: +Output, Pin 3: -Output. If you tie -Out to GND, you are shorting the output of the DAC chip, which is not good (the case if you tie it to Pin 1 and connect it to another piece of balanced gear.

I have connected it to my breadboarded balanced pre and it is just fine and sounds wonderful.
Thanks for all the help! Now its time to finish the preamp.
