Just completed (still on the breadboard -- actually a cardboard box) a Buffalo III with Placid HD + Placid HD BP + Legato III. I've listened to it for about three hours total, and the sound was (note I said "was"!) excellent.

This is the first stage of what is anticipated to eventually be a dual-mono Buffalo III, but I wanted to "start simple."

Today, after about 20 minutes of listening, I heard some distortion in the right channel, followed a few seconds later by a "pop." After the pop the right channel output was decreased by about half.

The voltages (warm) are as follows:

Placid HD = 5.23 V

Placid HD BP = +14.98 V

Placid HD BP = -15.02 V

On the Placid HD, the TP_Shunt+ to TP_OUT+ = 57.8 mV (equal to the same in mA)

On the Placid HD BP, the TP_Shunt- to TP_OUT- = -58.2 mV,
and the TP_Shunt+ to TP_OUT+ = 59.1 mV

In addition, the voltages on the Legato III at all outputs, both balanced and single-ended were 0.0 V.

Following the decrease in volume there were periodid loss of lock and momentary "drop outs."

At this point, I'm at a loss to diagnose the problem and would greatly appreciate assistance.

Thanks!

Problem Solved. Replaced bad transistor in Legato III R channel.
