After over a year in planning and buying parts from all over, I finally powered up my cd-player using a cd-rom project. I have never done anything like this before. I have good skills with soldering but only a basic/intermediate knowledge of electronics.
First of all, a huge thank you for the help support that both Brian and Russ have given me. I couldn't have done it without thier help. I think I asked more questions than anyone so far. It is far from complete. I need to add the ability to connect external spdif and usb in. And switch the whole thing. I would like to be able to use a relay with a single momentary button to change the relays. And I am waiting for another batch of USB receivers to come in. In the mean time the cd-player part is excellent.
I could not be happier with the results. I am not sure if this thing beats my turntable ( i prefer the sound), but I believe that your dac etc, comes as close as you can get with a digital medium. Still not completely broken in yet.
I had a couple of questions.
You may not be able to help with this. I use a cd-rom controller kit I bought online. Whenever I hit skip track forward I hear a "tick" through the speakers. So the noise is coming through the Dacs etc.
Also, When I was connecting for dual differential, I noticed that with some pics of others projects, they used only one of the 2 grounds on each dac (right or left). I didn't know what to do, so I wire both grounds together and soldered them to the appropriate post on the XLR port. Is there a problem doing this. Or, should I disconnect one of them?

Both ground points are connected on the PCB, so either way is fine.

any ideas with this. is there something grounding that shouldnt be or? just something I could look at

Hi,
I have been looking to do the same with a cd-pro. It seems sourcing the various parts is a real pain. Any idea what the total cost is for the cd-pro as a transport only. I see you are building a cd with dac and more. Good to see you are happy with the end result.
