Hi,
I am thinking of connecting a spare pair of lundahl LL1518 (similar to the LL1517) to the balanced outputs of the Ivy i/v as I like the sound from transformer coupled dacs, I was planning on jumpering the output resistor and joining the + and - on the balanced output using the transformer
The transformer is ideally suited to 0ohm input impedance and 600 ohm output
Am i right in saying I wont damage the Opamp by shorting the + and - like this?
Am i right in saying I would I be able to drive headphones from the output?

Do you mean presenting the transformer primary coil as a load for IVY-III? I can't say I have ever tried this, nor would I recommend it.
It may work as long as the DCR of the primary is not too low, but you are on your own. :)

fair enough :) - would loading the Ivy with a 300-600 ohm resistor from the LL1518's primary center tap to gnd be a better aproach? Edited by user Monday, March 12, 2012 4:21:01 PM(UTC)

If you simply leave the 21R in series with the outputs I think you would end up OK. But like I said, I have never tried it.
