I've spent the last hour or so looking around and am quite intrigued with the idea of building a DAC. I found this site while doing GOOGLE searches for "DAC with DSD input". I want to be able to switch between DSD and 75 ohm SPDIF (it appears that BNC SPDIF can operate at 192/24)? My current media center build is an ASUS M4A88TD-M/USB3 with a Xonar Essence ST. To an M2a and a pair of ML Vistas. Sounds pretty schwidt, but many of my fav recordings aren't available on HDTracks (yet?) - but ARE available on SACD.

Build all my 'puters. Built a BUNCH of HAM gear (Heathkits) when I was a kid and I built a lot of audio gear back "in the day" using some of the old SWTPC kits. Have recently modded some of my M2As with the DRM output modification (http://www.drmaudioht.com/). So I think I'm up to the task...

I guess the big question is when will the next batch by available? :-)

thanks!
'sig

They are being produced right now, so it should just be a week or two. :)

I think you will not have any problem at all.

The great news for you is that the Teleporter(TTL/LVDS transceiver) modules will be out around the same time, and they will be exactly what you want to move DSD signals from a modded SACD player to the B3.

Cheers!
Russ

I am VERY happy to hear that! I definitely planned on getting at least two (probably three of those). I have an older Sony 400 disc jukebox that does SACD. I was hoping to be able to mod it. I presume all of these players use one of only a few different chips to do their internal conversion? I'm thinking of using wire wrap wire (30 gauge solid, silver plated) to tack solder to the chip lands...

Looks like I will need Sidecar, a 4 chan level converter configured for 1 BNC, 1 RCA, 1 optical and 1 balanced, a switch kit, a toslink converter, 3 LVDS modules, the NEW USB module, an IVY III, a uni-polar and a bi-polar supply, a pair of transformers, etc, etc...

Since I would like to have a SACD input AND a USB input I'm thinking I can have ONE LVDS input and just switch between two external LVDS cables (one with SACD and the other with USB). Do you have such a swithcing module available?

I guess since you do releases on the weekends I need to set my phone to remind me to check the site on Fridays.. huh?

On a different note, has anyone here had much luck in sampling and saving their SACDs to HiDef PCM? I want to eventually have ALL my music on my media center, and I'm thinking I can sample the audio output from your DAC at say 96/24 to get the job done...
