Hey all,

I installed a trident set on my b2 and now it's not locking :(
mute light stays on.

All the lights on the tridents and avcc are brightly lit and i'm showing 5.2V at the input when loaded.

I have another b2 and I'll probably reinsert the beads tonight to make sure the dac still works before putting the tridents back and troubleshooting.

I was wondering if anyone could help with some troubleshooting steps? I understand it's possible to test the tridents individually, but I'm not sure how this is done?

Thanks!

-Ken

Have you adjusted the psu voltage and currents? If you are using a Placid then aim for 5.25V, 450mA supply current and about 30mA shunt IIRC.

OK I royally screwed up and broke that buffalo. What happened is I mounted the tridents in reversed! That explains why I was getting vdroop no matter what current I set the placid to.

I removed the tridents and put the beads back and it's doing the same thing so I must have screwed up the buffalo.

I put the tridents in another buffalo (correctly this time!) and that one works just fine.

Is there any hope for the first buffalo? All the lights come on just fine on the tridents and AVCC. Any parts I could possibly try replacing or checking?

Have you tried removing the ferrites and putting tridents back in correctly? It could be that only the VREGs are dead. I have never had this experience myself so I can't be sure. :)

Worth a shot anyway.

Otherwise I suspect the ES9018 itself is dead and you would need to replace it.

Hi Russ,

I'm doing that now. I messed up one of the beads when removing it anyways so I probably put a half broken one back.

I did put the tridents in properly (in the busted b2) once I figured out my screw up, and all the lights were on but still got the no lock behavior.

I think I broke a 3.3 trident(no lights) so I actually mounted a whole new set of tridents on the second b2 (properly). I wouldn't doubt I broke others, but would like to verify. Do I just measure the +- leads on the tridents to test them?

I couldn't find very much documentation on installing/testing the tridents.

Thanks!

-Ken

You don't need to use an actual ferrite. A small piece of wire or even a solder bridge will work.

The integration guide for the Buffalo II (http://www.twistedpearaudio.com/docs/community_docs/leonvb-Buffalo_Integration_Guide_V1.0.5.pdf) provides the required information on installing the Tridents.

Didn't know that :|

I'm gonna try a couple of solder bridges.
