Hi guys,

I have not decided on any Twisted Pear dac but due to budget, the COD is very ideal price for me to build my first diy dac, and also owning the first dac. Some question here hope experts around can help me.

I wouldn't bother the performance gap between COD and B III but would like it to go rather simple and compromise in price. I'd read B III manual this week and still find it complicated for beginner like me. Simple question and I don't mind to go shy.

Could the COD;

1) takes direct coaxial input directly?
2) With the simple I/v in can start singing?
3) My ichy hand bought the Tube I Zator as tube output, could it combine nicely with the COD in near future?
4) Which power supply suits COD?
5) All I need is 1xCOD, 1xPower supply, and 1x tran for simple dac setup?

Many Thanks!!

Hi Juniper,

Here's what I suggest

1- receiver/mux module
S/PDIF Transceiver
S/PDIF 4:1 MUX/Receiver
USB Receiver/DAC

2- Yes Whistle

3- The COD is a current output DAC thus should work well with the Tube-I-Zator. Just don't mount the simple I/V that is included with the COD.

4- You will need a LCDPS for feeding power to the DAC

5- Yes, Yes (You can use LCDPS left side to power both analog and digital section and right side for receiver module), Yes (9V + 9V 15va+)

You can also use multiple LCDPS and transfo if you prefer.

Thanks
Do

Hi Do,

receiver/mux module
1-S/PDIF Transceiver
2-S/PDIF 4:1 MUX/Receiver
3-USB Receiver/DAC

You mean I need all 3 items above for a coaxial input?

Thanks.

You choose which one you require:

1-S/PDIF Transceiver
Is a SPDIF tranceiver only

2-S/PDIF 4:1 MUX/Receiver
Is a SPDIF receiver and mux. 4 inputs

3-USB Receiver/DAC
Is a USB transceiver

The second option is nice when you want to hookup multiple spdif/usb/toslink sources and switch between them.

Thanks
Do

Hi DO,

Say using x2 LCPDS for the PSU, therefore each LCPDS only function 1/2 of it? Is the pacid suitable here? thanks!

Hi Juniper,

You can go really expensive or you can be very conservative.

That said, the COD requires 7.5VDC for the digital section and 7.5VDC for the analog section.

For this you can either use a LCDPS or Placid HD

Using the LCDPS
http://www.twistedpearaudio.com/power/lcdps.aspx

You can use each output to power both the VD and VA separately
Or
You can use half of the LCDPS to power both sections of the COD (just add a jumper between VD and VA for positive and use one of the two gnd). Then use the other side of the LCDPS to power the SPDIF transceiver

Using Placid HD shunt power supply (better solution but also more expensive).
http://www.twistedpearaudio.com/power/placid.aspx

Use either one placid per rail (VD and VA) on the COD
Or
Use one placid to power both section of the COD (add a jumper between VD and VA for positive and use one of the two gnd). This would be my preferred solution!

You can then use a LCDPS to power other modules like the SPDIF transceiver, etc..

If the voltage of the transceiver is the same as the COD, you could use the same Placid HD to power everything...

Ciao!
Do
