My DAC based on buffalo II or III will inclulde 4-5 power supplies and 2 buffalo board as well as 1 -2 legato 3 in addition to MUXm volumiteds etc. What is the best way to grouding these components in a DAC? For power amps, I use star ground with thermister between the star point and chassis in order to minimize for ground loop. But I wonder I can do the same for all the componets in a DAC.

Thanks!

I used a single ground between the LCBPS, LCDPS and the Mux, Opus, Ballsie 0v supply. I have no extra ground connections for any of the signals. It's working well.

Thanks for the reply. In my case, I have ground of all components connected to each other. I was wondering about which of these grounds , if at all, should be connected to the chassis via in rush thermister and ultimately to the power main earth, if neccessary, in star ground fashion if desirable...

Thanks again.

I know some people do, but I haven't connected any mains earth/chassis ground to 'ground' in my amp or dac.

The inputs to my Mux are the TV via toslink (no ground link) and Squeezebox 3 via coax, but the SB3 PSU has no ground. In my setup the chassis ground is purely for the electrical safety of the mains side of transformers.

I'm not saying all the this is 'the right way' but it's what works for me.

My understanding is that signal ground and chassis earth should not be connected at all, as that would allow noise from the mains into the audio signal.

Only the chassis should be connected to the mains earth pin.

The grounds from all the components should be connected together, preferably in a star layout, but not to the chassis.

The signal ground 'floats' and is equal to the centre-tap on the low voltage side of your transformers. With balanced equipment the ground can float through the entire system from dac to power amps assuming everything runs off transformers.

I hope this is right as that's how I'm building mine.
