I thought that the ferrites were at the input side of regulators.

sorry, you are correct. Put those ones back and remove L1-L3, which are at the outputs of the vregs.

Brian, Russ,

I have finally received Manos's BII and I have the replacement ESS9018 chip as well.

Doing some more tests, I found that on the right output of the BII there is a short to ground on both + and - and not on the left output. I believe this is an indication that the chip is really busted... Is it?

Thanks
Do

A chip failure *could* certainly produce such a result. But so could many other things.

Today the chip was changed by one of my friends who's got the right equipment. A quick 20 minutes and voila!

Tested on-board regulators, AVCC module and everything was working fine. Checked all Tridents individually and then soldered them on and all good as well!

Did the final tests today by adding a SPDIF source and got a solid signal lock.

Finally hooked up a pair of headphones on the gnd and +/- output terminals of each channels (didn't bother with the I/V stage) and music was playing!!! :d/

So the BII is alive and kicking! Who said anyone could kill a BII!

Ciao!

Looks great!
Yes - The BII is: 'hard to diy'!
The PSU looks like the new BiB's. How hot does your (over-sized?) heat sinks run?
Cheers,
Nic

Right, these are BiBs. The sinks are quite hot. Legato regs are running >200mA over load current consumption. Now feeling better listening than tuning for heat..
