Hi, I have sent two emails regarding the Buffalo II DAC but got no answers... I figured, maybe in the Forums it'll be answered. Hopefully! So here is my original questions below (I don't know how to attach an image in here so I have included a link of the regulator I'm using): http://cgi.ebay.ca/Kubot...&hash=item4aa1aaafac========================================== I currently built myself a very good Borbely Pre-amp (SE). I would require an input selector (SE) and a DAC. What would I need to add to the Buffalo II DAC to have USB input, 2x Digital Coax input. I have a volume control on my Borbely Pre-Amp so I wouldn't need a volumite or would I? This will be integrated into my preamp chassis. I have attached a schematic and BOM of the regulator I'm using. Would that be good enough to power this DAC? I was also considering your OPUS DAC which uses the WM8741... Is it as good sounding as the Buffalo II? ========================================== Thanks for your help Do

The forum is the best place to ask questions... To add USB input, you will need something that will convert USB to S/PDIF, such as our USB module. The current version will support up to 16-bit/48kHz material. We are working on a hi-res version that will support up to 32-bit/384kHz material. There are also other USB interfaces available on the market (elsewhere) such as the hiFace and Musiland units. You would then feed the output of the USB interface and the two Coax inputs that you want into the S/PDIF MUX module. You would then take either the S/PDIF or I2S output of that module and feed it into the Buffalo. The Buffalo requires a 5.5VDC supply. The supply you mentioned is bipolar and has a minimum output voltage of +-12VDC. This would NOT work for the Buffalo. It could be used for an I/V stage for the Buffalo, however, such as the IVY or Legato.

1x IVY or Legato (for I/V stage & conversion to SE) 1x Placid + 9V transformer 1x Placid BP + 15V transformer (or your own PSU combo) 1x Mux 1x USB module Can't comment on the sound of the Opus. It's using a high end Wolfson chip, and the users' comments are good. Hard to believe you would be disappointed about it.
