I want to be able to switch the absolute phase of the output on the Buffalo II. Is it possible to do this in the digital domain and if so, how?

In my DAC, Parasound DAC-1500, absolute phase is inverted using 74HC04AP. This DAC has four PCM65 for balanced output. They did not use opamps for balanced output stages, but built two complete D/A sections for balanced output, one being inverted with 74HC04AP in the digital domain. For unbalanced output, only one section is used. 74HC04AP is between digital filter (SM5813) and the DAC. I guess, data format was (Sony) DATA/Wordclock/bitclock. Do not know, if (Philips) I2s can be treated this way. But I guess you need a SPDIF Receiver for decoding the SPDIF Data stream before you can invert in the digital domain. Maybe this helps as a start.

All you need do is reverse the polarity of the analog output, you will then have inverted absolute phase.

Thanks guys. I have seen the 74HC04AP trick before but the problem is that this chip is quite noisy. I guess I will just make the switch on the analogue outputs.
