Hi,

I just got my Buff 2 up and running in a basic evaluation sort of setup. Being a sucker for passive solutions and reading good reports of sound quality with transformers, I am using transformer output with a pair of Sowter 3575. These are just isolating transformers: 10K/10K so working in voltage mode which I realise gives worse figures for THD - but it's all about trade-offs, I guess. I got the transformers made with OCC wire (I love all that stuff!). It sounds pretty awesome already, although with my limited experience of transformers I am expecting a lengthy burn-in for the full beauty to emerge.

Anyway, I'm no whizz at electronics so prior to the 'proper' build I wanted to ask a couple of Q's. Sorry if the answers to these are in places I haven't looked, or if they are generally dumb things to ask!

1 - I want to use I2S output from my Stello CDT100 to play CD's, and wondered whether I can also add a second input (a SPDIF one) without needing a MUX module by running wires from the SPDIF switch (on the Buff board) to another switch on the case that can then be used to toggle between I2S and SPDIF?

2 - I bodged the soldering to one DVCC connection on the supplied AVCC module (lifted a pad, don't ask how). But is this pad actually connected to anything on the AVCC module? The DAC seems to work fine, except that one of the two LEDs on the AVCC module is noticeably brighter than the other, which is worrying me in a minor way.

Thanks for any input anyone has, and as ever a big cheers to Russ & Brian for amazing work!

Dave

I just noticed compuryan posted on a similar topic to my Q1 about an hour ago! So I guess from answers to his post the answer to mine is no!

Oh well... any thoughts still gratefully received. I could go the MUX route, but instinctively like simplicity.

Cheers,

Dave.

Anybody able to reassure me about the difference in brightness of the LED's on the AVCC module? Am I right in thinking that the pad marked DVCC on the main Buffalo 2 board does not connect to any circuitry on the AVCC module that sits above it? Or does it?

Thanks,

Dave

The differences in brightness are normal behavior for the AVCC.
