Hi to all, for better cooling, I would like to mount the transistors to a central heatsink, which dissipates direclty towards outside of the cabinet. Length of the wires would be about 15-20cm. Any disadvantages from that, like catching noise from the environment? All the best, Nak

You can mount the entire board to a heat sink by putting the transistors horizontal with the lead coming up through the bottom of the board.

Hello Russ, thank you for the advice, I know this mod from this forum.
The whole Buffallo/IvyIII/Placid arragement will be used to modify one of those tank-like built CD-Players from the late eighties. BTW the mod is future-proof, I still have spare parts like lasers, motors and gears.
There is plenty of room, the original D/A Board will be removed. I will also get custom wound toroids for the Players circuitry as wells as for the Placid/BII/IVYIII combo.
But the servo circuits of the player dissipate a lot of heat as well, even though the cabinet is vented.
So it would be better to place the Placids trannies directly to the players aluminium backplate and mount a heatsink on the outside, using thermal paste.
Placing the trannies away from the pcb is not advised because of picking up HF-noise?
All the best, Nak
