Hi
I just noticed that my Buffalo II has no R17 mounted, though in the photo on your website shows it in position. Should it be there or not, and, if so, what's its value?

No it is not required.
When I designed the boards I designed it so one could mount either an XO or a Crystal. That resistor is only used when using a crystal. We use an XO which is much better quality than using a crystal.
