I guess many of you have chosen metal enclosures. Are there any reasons not to mount Buffalo (+Placid power supplies) on a piece of wood? Does the surface have to be conductive?

Metal offers shielding (when grounded), but it is certainly not a requirement. Wood is fine, unless you find you have a particular need to prevent interference.

I also was thinking about wood when I stumbled across Hammond's new Walnut/Aluminum designs. I've ordered a couple, but I have not received them yet so I cannot give you a first hand review, but I think they look pretty good in the pictures.

The aluminium bits come in anodized black too. Personally, I'm a little tired of every piece of AV kit in my house being black metal/plastic, so I went with the non-black version.

Those new Hammond cases really would work quite well.
