Hi, I have Buffalo32s and would like to use a Juli@ PCI board as a source (possibly hacking I2S output). I believe that Buffalo comes with master clock which is much better than Juli@'s but even without that I think that synchronized clock should give better overall results than two separate clocks.
Please let me know what is your oppinion about it and how to extract Buffalo's clock to drive audio board (I believe that some line drivers is required and possibly some isolation using pulse transformers or something else). I'm not limited with the budget.
Many thanks in advance.

The DAC is setup to run Asynchronously. So there is no benefit at all to sharing the clock.

Many thanks Russ for quick response! So I don't need to worry about clock sync.

Only think that is left in my mind now is how to make proper connection using I2S signal. Any recommendation or preference regarding signal isolation/impedance matching, transfer? I believe that can use UTP or coax cable but still don't know if some line driver logic is required and/or pulse trafo?

I don't know the impedance of the device in question, so its hard for me to offer advice about matching it, but I would not worry much. If you like you can play with different value parallel termination, but I think it will work fine with none other than the 47K already there.

There are several threads on www.diyaudio.com and audioasylum.com. Check out

Also

I have used small coax such as RG174/U (50ohms) and RG187 (75ohms) successfully over 15 feet distance.

Some use CAT5 or CAT6 ethernet cable.
