Hi I have obtained a Pioneer DV575 which converts DSD to PCM with the intention of tapping into I2S and sending SPDIF to my Buffalo. After reading through the Transceiver manual, it looked fairly simple to implement (I am not expert but handy with a soldering iron) With the help of the repair manual, I found the BCK LRCK SCK and DATA and connected up. I set the recommended PCM IN/SPDIF OUT configuration but the player locks up and fails to respond to command. Can anybody suggest a reason why this doesn't work? Are you using the OPUS spdif board? And are you saying the DVD575 locks up?

I suppose DATA from player feeds Din (not Dout) in the receiver board?

I'm using the Wolfson8804. It is the DVD player that locks up. I downloaded the Pioneer DV575-A service manual (available free) Page 21 identifies the DAC that controls stereo output as PCM1742 at IC501 Page 32 shows BCK = pin 1, DATA = pin 2, LRCK = pin 3, PCMMCK = pin 16. Page 43 shows the access points at the bottom of the page. [img][/img] I put resistors in circuit (100R for LRCK) to buffer any capacitance but this has had no effect. Have you ensure that the two boards have GND connected?

You have the transiever configured as the master. Is that what you want?
Also it would be good to mount the LEDs to you have an indication what is happening.
Also you need to be ure of the format of the PCM. Is it 24bit I2S? Or some other format.

I was wondering whether I should disconnect the PCM1742 by breaking the track on the digital power input but it is a very fine track and once broken is unlikely to be repaired. The PCM1742 has a zero output flag and to be honest, I don't know what that does, otherwise I would have no hesitation in disconnecting. I may just have to bite the bullet and go ahead and see what happens. The player is a SACD player and the PCM1742 is 24bit/192kHz DAC so surely it must be 24bit I2S. Thanks

I have a feeling the WM8804 PCM input needs to be setup in slave mode. Having the manual would definitely be a plus.

The player works now with the circuit in slave mode.
However, it doesn't sound great and distorts really badly on peaks. Sounds like something is overloading.
I wondered if the output of the Wolfson was too high for the Buffalo-I input, but I'm told this can not be the case.

Have you tried different formats? Do you know format the PCM coming into the WM8804 is actually?

Should figure out the sample rate at the minimum first. For example if you have access to a cheap scope, you can measure LR clock frequency and that should give you the sample rate. More important is to know if it is LJ(16/24/32)/RJ(16/24/32) or I2S(16/24/32).
