Hello all, I'm going to try to get my hands on a Buff 2 set-up Saturday. I'm new at this, being a tube and vinyl guy.( I have a Ventus/Placid BP in house, though I haven't worked on it yet ). So it begs the following: If I decide to go the full monty and dual mono, I think I will need the following. Two Buff II dacs w/ Placid. Two sets of Trident regs One Legato w/ two Placid BP. If I'm understanding correctly, I don't need a separate SPDIF reciever as its a part of the DAC Have I understood this correctly ? If not, please feel free to correct any misconceptions. FWIW, I'll be feeding this into the balanced inputs on my Stax SR007TII/SR Omega, which is a very revealing set-up. Based upon your experiences, do you think I will HEAR a difference between the standard Buff II set/up and the dual-mono ? I know I'm asking a highly subjective question, but I will gladly rely upon your collective wisdom/experience. I would especially like to hear from anyone who has compared the two. From my experience, Noticeable change was that dual-mono improved L-R channel separation, enlarged soundstage, especially with loudspeakers. >being a tube and vinyl guy. For me, BII is amazing quality affordable DAC. But I still prefer vinyl's sound although my vinyl-equipments are cheap ones

My verbiage was confusing. I intended all along to buy two Buffalo II/Placid combos.
I will definitely read your discourse at a later time. I am sure I will be asking lots of questions.
I just hope I get lucky Saturday AM. I AM NOT a patient man, so if I don't get through in time I will be building a dual mono Opus/Legato setup. From what I've read about that, I won't be disappointed.
Any of you out there who may have compared Opus to the Buff please feel free to comment.

There is no reason to use a Placid if you intend to add the Trident set to the BII board. A single LCDPS is a more sensible option for a dual mono + Trident setup. There is 0 gain by using 2 shunts after eachother. You could use a Placid for other modules like fi. a Mux if you wish to add them.
