Hi,

Planning to use my sb touch to feed the buff2 with the spdif/coax. But then I came across the toolbox2 mods to the touch. this as I understand makes it possible to use the usb port as output. My question, is the usb port on the touch able to output I2s signal?

If yes, how to connect an usb cable to the I2s input on the buffalo?

I'm using sb touch with the buff2 using spdif over coax and it works flawlessly!
There is no evident benefit of using I2S over SPDIF with the bit-depth and sample rates that the sb touch handles (max 24/96 as far as I recall) so I would not bother trying to transmit the I2S signal over a USB cable.

Impossible. USB only has two data lines, whereas I2S requires at least three (but often uses five).

If the SB Touch can output USB, it would be just like a PC outputting USB. You would need a USB receiver.

Hello
I am using a slightly tweaked Touch via spdif/coax on my Buff II, and am satisfied with the result. A linear power supply added sound quality to the Touch, and the disabling of some unnecessary functionality improved it further. The sound of the Touch into Buff II is by far superior to the Asus Xonar STX soundcard I used earlier. To my experience there is no advantage of using the usb unless you have a dedicated technology solving lots of computer-related audio challenges. I live in Norway, Oslo, as you. Send a mail or PM if you would like to listen.

I am using the SB touch SPDIF out to Buff II through the MUX, and it works just great. I had the Duet before and the Touch sounds better plus it allows some higher res stuff off the music server.
I remember seeing plenty of hacks to the Duet to get I2S off but do not remember where. You will have to mount the receiver board near the Buff because I2S leads needs to be short. I have heard that it is not worth the trouble.
