Hello!

I have an interesting problem. When I turn the dac on for about 6 minutes the music is clipping randomly. (in about every 10-15 seconds, but as I said very random)
When I hear a "clip" in the music the lock led goes off for half of a second. Also one of the leds on the mini regulator is dimming (the right led on the picture).
When everything is warmed up the regulator led becomes steady. Measured voltage on the Placid is steady 5.45V all the time. I tried increasing the current, but nothing changed, only the Placid got real hot.

It's not a major issue, because audio gear sounds bad at a cold start anyway, I'm just afraid if this behaviour is safe for the dac in the long run or not.

Thanks, G

Can you measure the output voltage of the AVCC regulator, before, during and after the warmup? That may help pinpoint what it happening.

Atm after many hours of it's being on it's very stable 3,46. More measurements later.

Ok. There is minor fluctuation 3,46V to 3,48V, as it gets warmer the fluctuation becames less apparent and then totally gone. (I'm using a hiface and the sampling rate is 192khz all the time)

That fluctuation is normal. That's the LED reference thermal behaviour/drift. Does lowering the sample rate to 44.1K make the unlocking go away?

I will try that, but you know this is sort of a windows 7 setting .. :)

Hi,
The reason I say this is because of my latest experiment (which I have not yet reported)

Previously I was able to get rock solid locking with spdif and DPLL set to "lowest", no matter whether the DAC is "cold" or "warm".
with 192K sample rate, sdpif input and DPLL set a "lowest", I experience unlocks until the DAC warms up.
That is not really a big problem for me because I can set the DPLL to any value I wish.

If you switch to lower sample rate and do not experience unlocks, then it is possible the DPLL setting is the reason for the unlocks.

such things can also happen from external influences such as a ground spike from an appliance or heater turning on and off.

I tested it with 16/44,1 and there was no clipping. :)
Now I just gotta figure out a way how to make 192 work on windows7 without upsampling everything to 192.
