Hi,
I installed the tridents and now the BuffII won't lock on the signal. I was using I2s input and switched to spdif and still no lock. All the lights are on and placids are powering well. I installed the resistors and had to use wire to connect the tridents due to clearance issues. The trident on the left has the wires switched due to it being turned 180 deg. What have I done wrong?

Have you removed the ferrite beads?

Can you show us some pictures?

Hi Russ,
I removed L6, L7,and L8. The mux lock light is on but not the BuffII. I tried to post pics but had to go to work. I'll get them tonight. When I tried to attach pics it kept telling me they are too big. Whats the max size photo we can post?

Sorry the pics are too small. Cant figure out how to make them bigger. It wont let me load a 300 kb pic! I see 8 leds (2 AVCC and 6 tridents) glowing about the same brightness. Measured 15v and -13v out of the Placid BP into the Legato. 5.5v out of the Placid into the BuffII. I get 5.49v into the Tridents, 1.18v and 3.3v out. I've switched the spdif switch. Reverted back to I2s and changed the spdif sw. Still nothing. I can use my buffalo24 just fine. What am I missing?

Hopefully this pics can shed some light on the issue. It will not let me post a picture of 330 kb! Thats not right! Looks like they need to be less the 260kb.
MUX to BuffII connections are:
Gr -> Gr
BCK -> DCK
LRCK -> D1
Dout -> D2

Well no help here. Looks like I'll try to get another one and try again. Any harm in replacing the ferrite beads with a piece of wire and remove the tridents? I cant find the ferrites I removed. I'll see if that makes it work again or is it really dead.

You can pretty easy undo the Tridents. In search for the error, it's ok to place a bit of wire instead of the ferrite.

Btw, it looks ok to me, and as you says all the leds are on, are you sure the problem doesn't come from elsewhere ?

At least I can help you with the picture size. If your'e using Google Picasa, you can choose the size of the picture you want to mail. Yes I said mail. When you choose to send your picture, Picasa attach the file to a mail. Save the file and ditch the mail. Now you have a compressed jpeg file ready to upload here.

As an example, this is 110kb. No need for +200kb files.

Thanks for the answer about the ferrites. I keep hoping its something I forgot or a piece of solder stuck to it but I've had it apart several times and no clue. I think I will remove the tridents and brush it well, replace the ferrites with wire and keep my fingers crossed. I finally installed the Buff 24 to confirm there isnt anything else wrong. Buff24 works fine. Doesnt sound as good but makes music just fine. I'll remove the tridents and see if it works but I dont have much hope. The pics thing I found i have to keep the size at 250kb or less. Thanks for the moral support.

Hi Schnak,

Assuming you had adjusted the power supply for the required additional current for adding the new Tridents!

Good luck,
Milton

I had the ps setup properly. This one is dead. I missed getting another board. Dam it! Now I have to wait another 2 weeks!

Are the wires supporting the tridents or are they attached somehow to the DAC? I'm looking to mount mine flat as well, thanks.

After reading lindamar's post about his trident install issues I reinstalled my tridents. I installed the 1.2v reg in the correct spot this time. That and found out I had a bad Placid BP for the Legato! So after swapping out the Placid for a LCDPS and I have sound!!!!!!!!!! Hurray!!!!!!! Now I dont have to get up at 5 am to try to get a Buff II. Hurray!!!! PCM out of the Mux into the BuffII sounds much better than the spdif. 500 ma out of the Placid no problem. Now I need to get the retro phono preamp up and running!

Good you had it sorted out. Nice that the 1.2V VD is tolerant of 3.3V. I wonder how people are getting confused. I propose the 1.2V trident be made with a RED pcb :-)

BTW, I'm also waiting for the tridents to be back on stock...

I don't know how I switched them but I did. I think the ps went out at the same time so that added another element to the issue. I'm using a IvyIII and a LCBPS for now. It sounds wounderful with the tridents. The imaging is so amazing. The tridents are another great addition to the already great BuffII.
