Nic, but don't you need differential output to the UCD? I have not followed the legato thread wrt gain, but previously, the IVY was capable of "replacing" the gain lost by the input buffer of the UCD. In any case, the peak to peak swing into the UCD cannot be more than 12V because the input buffer of the UCD is powered by +/-12V. Also when did you become "Administrator" :-)

If you want high output balanced signal to the UCD your best bet is an IVY-III with gain added to the second stage.

Can I increase it? I would like to build a full class a system from the buff output to the headphone output.

I wouldn't until you find a good reason to. :)

If you know enough to want to do it you won't have any trouble figuring out how to pull it off.

Just listen to it first then decide.

I'm already listening to this combination and it is indeed very good!
As a hopeless DIYer I just want to try other ways (especially now when I have ordered the modules.....)

Well the thing is that the Ventus output is single ended. You could increase the output of the Legato if you like.

I'm referring to a dual mono configuration of Buff II/Legato using the Ventus in place of the on-board Bal/SE to yield balanced output.

I see. So you would have four Ventus?

In that case you really probably will only need about a gain of 2 on each Ventus.

Yes, two sets of Ventus2 - one set per channel.
I know it is a crazy solution but for the moment it is the only way I see to make a fully discrete DC-coupled I/V stage for the Buffalo......
If you should have any implementation suggestions I will be happy hear.
Nic

Hi Russ:

Just finished the Ventus, great when driving HD580!!!! If I'm going to pair with Placid BP, what's the current requirement (output and shunted amount) for Ventus if want to drive very hard headphone like AKG K-1000 (120 Ohm, Sensitivity of 74dB), or can I running 2 board per channel to double the driving current, or just as you mentioned before, increase the gain to 2?

How about Gain Setting If Input directly from SE of BII+Legato2, volume control via Volumite?

Just hope the offical manual will be online very soon!!

Hey folks here is a rough draft of the Ventus 2 manual. Please let me know if you spot any errors or omissions.

The delivering current should be 250mA instead of 150mA?

Any advantages or problems (if cooling is not a big problem) if I supply it up to +/- 18V?

I have not tried it, but it should be just fine. It will run a little warmer.

The manual reads: "If your source has a DC component, please use a capacitor".
I was thinking to use the Ventus together with the Legato without output caps - adjusting away the DC on the Ventus.
I was under the impression that this should be feasible, but now I'm no so sure anymore......
Thanks,
Nic
