Hi,
i have a question about connecting a cdpro2 to a buffalo dac.

I know that if i want connect it by I2S i need a ASRC for the clock.

But what output should i use 48khz, 96khz or 192khz ?
Or do i use spdif? shall i notice the difference in quality of the sound?

regards,

If you are using the Buffalo my personal preference is as follows: I would try metronome 96khz first and then 48khz. Because of the way that the ES9018 up samples/filters you will less benefit at 192khz. The nice thing is you can try all three and see which you prefer. :)

hi,

i would also use a cdpro-2 transport with my dual mono buffallo II. am i correct: if i use I2S i only have the option to go straight to the dacs. What to do if i just want to use additional spdif sourcesvia mux-board? Also i have read there is no need to use high quality reclocking the cdpro-2 using I2S with the metronome board. what is the picture if i use the spdif way to the mux board. would there be any benefit from using a clock like tentclock for drive and spdif output before the mux-board?

thx

Buffalo II required 64fs bit clock I2S. CDpro only does 48fs. So you would need Metronome if you want to use I2S out of the CDPro.

If you want to use the MUX you would just use SPDIF out of your CDPro int the MUX. If the SPDIF is consumer level then you need make no changes to the mux. If it is TTL then you will want to use a voltage divider to get it down to consumer level before input into the MUX.

Re-clocking prior to the Buffalo II is not required in the least, nor really even desirable.

There is no simple way to do that. It would be better to use SPDIF and the MUX.
