Dear Russ! I bought from you some Opus DAC panel for myself and my friend's WM8742 experiments. My question is: can we use the Volumite controller for this chip? The WM8741 firmware ok or need different?

Thanks for help, and sorry for my bad english...

You will need to look at both datasheets to be sure.

WM8742 is an inferior DAC to the WM8741. I quick look at the datasheets will confirm that for you. It is intended for lower end consumer products. It is basically a lower cost version of the WM8741 with corners cut to save money.

It just goes to show you that a greater part number does not mean a better part. Especially in this case. And yes I have listened to both and the WM8741 is much better. :)

Thanks for the info, but my friend's opinion this dac with transformer output is a giant killer... Possible that the other is even better, but now it's at hand. Can we use the chip with Volumite?

It looks like it should work just fine, but as I said you will need to compare datasheets for yourself to be certain.
