Hi, I am putting together my Placid right now and there are no resistors supplied for R1 and R2. Is this a mistake or intentional? I've consulted the manual and the forums but cant seem to find info on this.

The idea is that R1 and R2 are optional substitutions for VR1 and VR2. Generally, install VR1 and VR2 first, measure their resistance for the desired voltage/current, then install R1 and R2 of appropriate values.

So you install one or the other, not both.

Right!

Thanks for the reply. I suppose when people on the forums talk about measureing the voltage across R1 they really mean using the pads of R1 as measuring points for measuring the voltage across VR1? Thats what got me confused...

Thanks for clearing it up for me!

are you talking about Placid or Placid BP?

The single supply placid R1 & R2 are as Beefy has mentioned, just optional fixed values for the trimpots VR1 & VR2. You wouldn't normally measure the voltages across these though.

As for the Placid Bipolar, R1 and R2 are 1W 1ohm resistors, used to measure the current(by measuring the voltage) flowing through the CCS(constant current source).

Ah, I see. mayby thats what got me confused. Mine is the single version.
R3 has the same function on the single as R1-R2 has on the dual then...

Thanks a lot!

Looking forward to hearing this gear now!
