Got the Toslink module vcc and ground hooked on the buffalo II dac , the 2 outgoing wires from the toslink went on the D2 and ground of the buffalo II dac . ,

got my rca wires hooked on the out + and ground , and they are going to my integrated amp . ,

the toslink is going to my QA-550 which is a SD card player with a toslink output . ,

So i taught i done things right but i'm guessing wrong cause no sound coming out at all .Guess things sometimes are not always what they seem .

Any feedback would be helpful

The toslink module should be connected to the D1 input at Buffalo. Remember to set the SPDIF switch to closed.

Seems like you are not using an I/V stage?? That means the DAC is operating in voltage output mode > THD+N will suffer. You are also just taking out half of the balanced signal from the DAC > poorer performance. You will get a lot better results by using an IVY or Legato.

Good luck!

i did go for the Legato , that was my next soldering job , i was overly anxious to try out the dac and see if all soldering was ok before going to the Legato ,

toslink won't respond either on D1 or D2 ,

Toslink is getting her 2.990V , the DAC is being fed her 5.5V , mute light is on ,

When activating the SPDIF switch does the Led light up ?

more ideas are welcome

You would have roughly 1.65V DC offset if your using just +out and GND. Not a good thing...

If you are using D1 for input the SPDIF switch should be open. (check it with a meter is you need to)

The toslink module should have more than 5V, I guess 2,99V is to low to make it work. How is the toslink connected to your PSU?? Have you measured voltage out on PSU when loaded??

ok so , up from neutral to 1st gear ...
hooked the VCC to the the placid so i can get the minimum 5V required to activate the Toslink ,

the dac itself only gives out as previously mentioned 2.990V +- .

the DAC recognized it as it indicated it with the mute turning off and the Lock led indicator turning on .

least now the single Placid and the Buffalo II is operating . , so should be good to go next step which is the Legato I/V stage .

Thanks for the feedback

Indeed Stein i switched to the Placid to get my Toslink power , it does fluctuate at + - 0.010V,

maybe down the road i will parallel the transformer which could give more stable readings...

so all is so far so good

Meantime i have added a transformer in between the DAC and the integrated Amp that gives +12db for extra volume , good for now , will leave the DAC loosen up a bit .
