SPI and I2C interoperability via B-2 I2C header question for Russ

Question for Russ, What can you tell me about the I2C interface on the B-2? I recently posted a sort of question http://www.twistedpearau....aspx?g=posts&t=1208but I have realized the digital tap points from the players on that website give an SPI control output and the B-2 uses I2C. SPI is faster than I2C and to me, having never worked with either, looks a hard challenge to make interoperable. First off, I cannot tell if the SPI signals from the modded-DVD players are master signals and not slave. I am assuming master. I don't know if the I2C of the Buffalo is 'slave' as I know nothing about I2C. I know there are some pricey products that can interface the two but are quite complex and may need a lot of additional hardware. Do you have any advice on going about making the digital feeds from such a mod (similar I guess to Denon 1920 mode seen on this forum) work with B-2? What would I need to do? I understand you said you did something similar to the Denon 1920 mod for your own personal use, so I am hoping there is a relatively simple solution.

Hmmmm, you are making my head hurt... ;)
First the BUFII won't know how to interpret anything coming across either I2C or SPI unless it is intended specifically for it. :)
Now I could cook up some firmware that could interpret the SPI coming from such a DVD player, but that does not exist(Not that it could not).
You best bet is to simply find the DSD or PCM signals and send em direct to the BUFII. It can use either with no adjustments except to run in PCM/DSD mode.
You may need to control some relays depending on the signal type. That's not that hard to do. We have a device called "OTTO" that is just for that. And it will be in stock soon.
Cheers! Russ

Thanks Russ, I don't mean to make your head hurt ;)
I will research Otto. I note the forum search for "Otto" returns posts where people used words like "bottom", so pulls back lots of superfuous info. Now my head hurts ;)
