Hi Brian/Russ,

I have a Placid power supply that is supplying 5V to a Buffalo II DAC and SPDIF 4/1 mux. The heatsink on the power supply is running at 142 degree Fahrenheit (62 Celsius).

Is this temperature too high? If I were to use the use the chassis as the heatsink for both power transistors, do I need to insulate the TO-220 packaging from the chassis?

Those temps are fine (shunt regulators generate heat). The transistors supplied with the kit are isolated packages (to make life easy) so there is no need for additional isolation. Be sure to use a thermal paste to aid thermal conductivity, however.
