Hi, I have a JT on the output it sounds much better that way to me. I tested it with a pot on the input and I think I remember I had the same problem. Hope this helps.

Hello
Still having problems with low output gainBrick wall I check the FET’s they seem fine. I had to replace a few of them when I first put the preamp together because I installed R1, R2, R6, andR7 wrong I fixed that replaced the FET’s that bring to where I am now. I was reading the original thread on diyaudio.com looking at the PCB layout. So with R1 and R7 in wrong could it be possible that REF 1 went bad also the same with REF 2 causing me to have low output?

Regards
Dave

It is possible, what I would to is check the voltage on the output side of the REFs, it should be 10V.

Cheers!

Hi Russ
Help me here I am not an EE would the output side be the pin closest to the FET?
And if so is it from that pin to ground I would masure to see if there is 10v

Regards
Dave

Actually I did a terrible job describing it. You should check the positive pin. Which is the center pin.

The easiest way would be to check the pins of R10 and R11 which are closest to the FETs. The reference would be between those pins and ground.

Cheers!
Russ

Which end of R10, and R11 did you check, it should be the end toward the VREF.

Yes thats right I went from the resistor side closest to the FET the trace following to the center pin of REF1 I used the chassis as ground. I can recheck it tonight.

Well then, it sound like you don't have 10V from you VREFs, and that would be bad... Sorry.

I am actually not sure how to check the zeners in place... But yes, it would appear from your discription that the voltage refs are dead.
