I like your case. Could you tell me where to buy it? Thanks, Thomas

Thanks!
It is no off the shelf housing. I purchased the Alu-Profiles from km-housings. Milling and engraving of the panels was done by Schaeffer-Apparatebau (Frontpanelexpress in US.

Kudos, great project !!
I am not familiar with the resistors you used .... they look like boxes, could you elaborate a bit about changing the ones that come with the kit ?
best regards Pepe

Hi, the "boxes" are Bulk Metal Foil Resistors from Texas Components. You can get them with much better tolerance values than the resistors in the kit and there are some other good reasons to use them (in rocket science equipment). The best DAC needs the best resistors ;) http://www.texascomponents.com/pdf/vrths.pdfhttp://www.digikey.com/W...evenTechnicalReasons.pdfBut seriously, in a comparision listening to my Buffalo II Dac and a PCM1794A (with standard resistors) we were not able to find any difference between them. So I suppose the resistors included in the kit will work also well and there will be no audible difference, except you are a bat or cat. Best Regards, Arne

Great build. I don't see any ventilation in the case. Have you experienced any heat build up or problems?

No, I have not experience any heat problems with the power supplies. They do not produce very much heat and the 4 mm aluminium plates helps dissipating heat.

Nice build! As for spending ~600USD on metal foil resistors in I/V-III... Did you put them into PSUs as well? I looked into using metal foil resistors and got the two answers below. Please see AMB forum post by Ti Kan "As nice as those foil resistors are, I don't think it would make sense to use any in the β22 (or any audio amp). There simply isn't a need for that level of tight tolerance or thermal stability. To use them would be purely for bragging rights, and a very expensive way to do it." (http://www.amb.org/forum/beta22-amplifier-f12/b22-s22-questions-t696.html?hilit=metal foil#p6810A friend of mine, who works on his Ph.D. in Electronics Engineering at London School of Engineering and works on plenty of professional audio equipment wrote: "I have some industry experience and I haven't seen high grade components even in the most expensive studio brands...I used to use metal film resistors in some audio stuff I built, but only because the price difference say 10 years ago was negligible, and they're less noisy than carbon resistors. Using metal foil would be an overkill." Ended up using 0.1% 10-25ppm metal-film resistors from Vishay/Dale or IRC in builds. Edited by user Sunday, January 23, 2011 6:23:37 PM(UTC)

Yes, using an IVYIII and standard Buffalo without Tridents, a non ventiated case like this should be fine. With a Legato and adding Tridents woudl be another story!
