As I understand it, a differential output provides two signals of opposite polarity to each other. Ballsie Lite uses the two signals as the input and outputs one signal. The output signal should help to achieve "slightly better dynamic range" than using just one of the original signals. How come? Could anyone elaborate on this for me please? The Ballsie Lite seems to be available with either LM4562MA/LME49720MA or OPA2227PA. Are there any reasons to favour one over the other?

The "slightly better dynamic range" part of the text was quoted from the Buffalo32s user manual. The benefit might be specific to that application. Is it?

It basically applies to any differential signal. Most differential signals carry at least some common mode distortion component (though in this case it will be minuscule). Using a differential amplifier basically eliminates most of that through common mode rejection. The reult is the difference of the two signal minus the common mode components. IVY III - Includes this cct. It is only required where you don't already have BAL/SE conversion. Edited by user Saturday, May 29, 2010 8:32:03 AM(UTC)

I will add that, ideally, you would not do your Balanced->SE conversion until the last component (amplifier typically) so that you maintain the balanced connections as far as possibly, for the lowest possible noise. One reason the Ballsie Lite is so small is so it can be integrated into other components.

Hello, I buy Buffalo III. I need only single ended outputs - next stage is tube preamplifier with input impedance at 100kOhm.
Which module i need between: Legato or only Ballsie?

You'll need either Legato 3.1 or IVY III! Ballsie is already built into both.
Good luck, Milton
