Hi,
I have a buffalo 1.1 dac which has a comparator that won't accept 24/192. I have bought a new one which will. What is the best way to desolder the old comparator? Any tips to make it easy? There are only three solder points,
cheers
Aidan

There are five pins on the comparator. I typically use soldering tweezers to remove them, but you could use a destructive method, which would probably be easier:
Use fine tipped cutters to clip each of the five leads, remove the chip, then use the tip of your soldering iron to remove the remainder of the pins. A little solder braid will help clean the old solder off the pads.
PS: I will do this for free.

Thanks Brian, especially for the PS. I shall give it a go - I have done some surface mount before. If all goes wrong I may get back to you.
