OK, help needed...

Finally got around to testing my first Placid BP and in my hurry wired the transformer incorrectly. That gave me glowing LEDs on one side and a little smoke on the other.

Corrected wiring and replaced the smoking rectifier A1 (which was now shorted on pins 2 & 3) both sides now light up.

However the problem side output can't be adjusted, it just sits at 0.7v.

I traced the voltage back to R10 and it ~4v one side and minimal the other whereas the good side is ~4v both sides of resistor.

Before I start ramdomly replacing other components from my other unbuilt kits I would appreciate any advice.

Measure the voltage across each electrolytic cap.

C1 & C2 both ~22v

c11 4.06V good side
c12 18mv bad side

looks like I have stuffed the copper track between c12 and ic1 - game over I presume?

Unfortunately what it showed was that you likely had dead LEDs. Or a short after or at the caps.

It could be that the opamp or the transistors were also damaged. I am sorry for the bad news.

No worries, put that one down to experience (except I never learn...)

I have the Buffalo working now with one Placid on the IVY and it sounds pretty good!! whats the real world benefit of using dual supplies?

Using it into Linkwitz Orions with 6 channels of Hypex UCD's - long live DIY audio.
