just ordered the Placid and want to find out more.

I do not have idea what is meant by 'Shunt' power supply. This could sound silly. But will adding capacitor at the output of the Placid. Like a 1000uf or even 2200uf capacitor improve the performance of this power supply ? or will it be the other way round.

Just to keep it short, shunt regulators work best without extra capacitance at the outputs.

Cheers!

But local decoupling is still important, yes?

Not decoupling so much as bypassing. :)

And for this the cap will need to be extremely low ESR and ESL.

Hi, Russ

Does that mean the bigger uF the better as bigger uf means lower ESR and ESL ?
