Hi there,
I just received an official datasheet of the ES9018 (very nice to have your own name name printed on it ;) ). I want to do some more fun stuff with the B32s, like volume control and SPDIF/I2S/DSD switching using a Altera CPLD. I also want to extract the sample rate from the ESS (easyer than dooing it in the CPLD by timning signals).
So I want to use the I2C header to connect to the ES9018. The manual says that I'd need to remote the uC on the board to be able to interface with an external I2C master. That's not problem :)
I'm not sure however what the basic configuration of the currect uC looks like? Can you tell me what the default register settings are? If this is not possible to do openly due to the NDA, we can do this via email also..

I think if you read the datasheet it should be pretty obvious how to set up the chip in a "default" or "standard" way.

Basically yes, but there might be some surprises, that's why I am asking. The datasheet is not very detailed when it comes to the registers in most cases anyway ;)

There are no real gotchas.
The defaults are perfectly reasonable.
Everything you need to know is in the DS. :)

Sorry I forgot to mention for the Buf32S, there is one thing you will need to do to get it to work correctly for I2S and DSD.
Set register 14 7:4 to 0b1111
This correctly remaps the DACs.
Cheers! Russ

Hi Russ,
Looks like that is the default setting?
What I don't get: how does the DAC decide that it needs to run in stereo mode? For SPDIF, this is the only option, but how does it do that for DSD an I2S?
