Guys, what is the optimal voltage for VD after all?
I thought it was 5V but Placid's manual has instructions for 6V.

Thanks for the manuals!

However, I have a question, of this paragraph that seems to be the most important part of the document. In the manual it reads like this:

IMPORTANT!!! Prior to applying power or even wiring the transformers adjust the CCS pots so that the
resistance across the CCS R positions (VR1 and VR2) is about 100Ω. Then adjust the VOUT pots(VR3 and
VR4) to their maximum resistance which should be ~2K. It is easy to check the resistance of the pots by placing
your DMM probes on each the pads of the unpopulated R1/2 and R3/4.
Do this with no power applied.


What made me wonder is the mentioning of measuring unpopulated R1/2 and R3/4 (or just R1/2 for single version of Placid). I mean R1 and R2 are resistors...how come I should measure them especially as unpopulated? I mean there shouldn't be any variable element with those component.

Should it actually read about measuring the unpopulated VR1/VR2 and VR3/VR4 in the manual? Or have i understood something wrong...?

Did your kit contain R1-R4? It should not have.

These resistors are optional and are used onyl when replacing the trimmers (VRs) with fixed values.

The kits are still on the way, so haven't build anything yet. Yes, the manual mentions R2 and R5 (instead of R1 and R2), my mistake, sorry.

Anyways, after reading the manual again I got what you mean there. Maybe its a language thing, but somehow i misunderstood the word "pads" and got confused of why I should measure the fixed value resistors. I thought these pads were the "legs" of the component not the "holes" in the PCB. It made sense after taking look at the PCB layout, so its all clear now :).

If it works with no performance penalty at 5V what's the point in setting it at 6V? Whistle

Either is fine.

I would probably use 5V just to keep the temps lower. But they are not at all bad even at 6V.
