It can easily power and headphones directly from the DAC outputs.

You can actually decrease the gain of the output by adding resistors to get the output level you desire. The optional resistors are through-hole, so there is no need to do any SMD work. If you remove R22/23 and R36/37, you can add through-hole resistors to increase the gain.
