I have an Opus duel mono with the USB receiver/Metronome and my Mac Book Pro will not recognize it as a 24-bit device. In Mac OS X Leopard when I go to the finder and choose_ Applications/Utilities/Audio Midi Set ... and then select the" Audio Devices" tab the highest available setting is 2ch16bit. See the screen shot labeled "settings" Yet I can get 2 channel 24 bit sound when I choose the internal speakers, see the screen shot labeled "settings2" Also the clock source toggle in OSX Audio Midi Setup is not available ever. Does the USB receiver support 24 bit streaming and if it does is there a driver that will allow me to run the USB receiver in that mode with OSX? I have tried all of the DAC's OSR setting as well as the Metronome's corresponding clock settings and OSX always sees Opus as 16 bit. I guess I don't know how to post photos here. javascript:insertsmiley(' %20','/forum/images/emoticons/eusa_wall.gif') At any rate if someone else out there is running OSX, are you getting the same feedback from the USB settings in Applications/Utilities/Audio Midi Setup? If the USB receiver is a bottle neck in the streem will running an optical receiver get me full bandwidth? The USB module is based on the TI PCM2707. It maxes out at 16-bit/48kHz.

No. It can only reconstruct a 16-bit stream from the USB bus. It is all the native USB drivers can supply actually. There are USB DACs capable of 24/96 output, but they require custom USB drivers.

The manual is only trying to convey the best setting for the Opus when using the USB module.
The USB module itself is only a 16 bit device as Brian said. That's a limitation of the PCM2707 not of the Opus.
