I just finished my buff32, I reused the power supply and mux from my buff24. I have both left and right audio on one lcbps set at +15 and -15 vcd and lcdps one side at 6vdc for the mux and the other side at 5vdc for the buff32, everything sounds great the one thing is the auto mute led does not come on when there is no signal (yes I checked the polarity on the led) and the lock led while comes on when connected to a digital source but when not, it flashes every few seconds. Is this a problem, what do I look for

When you refer to no signal, do you mean source connected but not playing, or when no source is connected?

Source connected but not on boy does it sound good, though One other little problem I can set +15VDC and -15VDC on LCBPS unloaded and once loaded I can raise the plus side back to 15VDC but the minus side I can only get to 14.67VDC, is this a problem? No problem with the LCDPS maintaining voltages Any word when the Placid will be available

I think I found my lock/auto mute led problem (found a loose wire on switch, but did not have time to fix that) On the analog PS, the both heat sinks and R1-R4 are barely warm, I set both voltages the same at 14.5 because that is as high I can go on the negative rail. do you think this is a problem? I will be replacing LCBPS with the Placid when it available.

R1-4 on the LCBPS are probably a bit too high to supply both sides of the BUF32S at 15V.
Two choices:
1) Change those Rs to 4.7R or simply short them. 2) Run at 12V. Which actually will make the whole DAC run abit cooler. :)
My first choice would be #2.

hello will the reduced voltage from the analogue psu´s affect the sound if not it´s no point running @ +/-15vdc when I can get away with reduced heat and 12vdc best Leif Norway

Not that I have noticed. :) I run 12V just because I like the reduced heat.

Ok,12VDC it is, thanks for the answer. I hadn't noticed any heat from the DAC since it is not in a case yet, I run the PS's in separate enclosure. The DAC and Mux are mounted on a aluminum plate that will be in a wood case I am building, do I need to shield the dac/mux with copper foil before putting in the wood case. What would be the max tempature the dac can handle before I could do damage. I like leaving it on 24/7

I use mine in a small sealed aluminum case, along with the power supplies (at +-15VDC). Heat is not an issue.
Shielding the DAC is not a bad idea, but not strictly required.

thxs for swift reply! excellent service as usual will adjust to 12 vdc and if I don´t notice any difference it will stay there my dac and psu´s are in ebony chassis from vt4c in hk with locally made mdf bottom, top and back panel cabinet is internally shielded with copper mesh shielding tape from rs-components shielding separating wall between psu and dac sections as well sounds really good and is almost putting my crazy vinyl setup to retirement! best Leif Norway

How much air space you have around the DAC, does the wood case get warm. I think the Buff32 is really good, but I still spin vinyl occasionally. I do not want to start a discussion about it either. I am more into music than sound.

Mine is in an aluminum case (Hammond 1455) so quite small.

I did not mean to suggest that 15V rails would cause enough heat to be a problem. All I meant is in general the cooler you can keep semiconductors the longer they tend to last. :) :EDIT: I also have a cct change I am testing and it is currently setup for 12V rails, so I have more than one reason. :):/EDIT: Edited by user Thursday, July 30, 2009 12:56:40 PM(UTC)
