Brian/Russ,

Why is my Buf32 DAC always mute when I changed channel on my (source) HDDVR from musical to non?

Here is my set up: Dish Network (Serius Satelite channel NO Problem) to DAC thru Optical. All the switches are (default) open position. Every time I switch to non musical channel, mute (no music) LED and LOCK both ON. I tried to set the switch to (+) but did not help.

Thanks,

Joe

Probably because your source is set to transmit encoded LPCM for surround applications.

You will need to set it to transmit straight PCM.

Russ,

You are right about the setting to PCM will work. But I have to connect the optical cable to SPDIF connector otherwise it will mute when leave it to D1. Is there a problem connecting the optical cable to SPDIF instead of D1?

Thanks,

Joe

If you use D1 direct (as you should from the Toslink module), you need to set the SPDIF switch to OFF.

Brian is right, the reason is that with the SPDIF swicth on, the output of the comparator is connected to D1. If you are using D1 as an input then you need to open the "SPDIF" switch so that the comparator will not fight against whatever is supposed to be driving D1. In this case the TORX module. :)
