You guys make nice Dac's.

This project have never been intended to be nice looking. Its built in a wooden MDF cabinet, that I just painted black.
The caps is changed to Black Gate NX 1000uF. They are to big to fit. Thats why it looks messy:)

Transformers are Noratel 80Va each.

Initially the dac plays beautiful with very high resolution and detail. Miss a litle depth, but I can not make any judgement on this before the dac has played some hundred hrs. This is typical for the BG caps when new.
But....a good thing;
The dac is 100% disturbance free.

It is not how it looks, but how it sounds that matters. :) I don't think it looks bad anyway. :)

Enjoy!

Cheers!

Thanks Russ,

The DAC has now been in constant operation for 48 hrs.
I placed myself in listening position to find out if things had "loosened up" a bit.

It definately had!
This is, with good margin the best DAC I ever heard! Cost no object!

Consuidering that the BlackGate NX caps needs 5-600 hrs of operation before they delivert their full potential, it will even get better.

Thank you very much for designing and making this DAC avaliable to us!

Erland,
The BG's are the red caps in the PSU's?
I thought that famous burning in time of BG were restricted to the N series and only when used as coupling caps.
Nice work,
Nic

Thanks Nic,

My experience is that it goes for all BG caps.

Of this reason I only use them in "always on" equipment.
This DAC does'nt even have a power switch that can tempt anyone to turn it off:)

For my valve pre and power amps, I stay away from BG and build with film caps even if it means they grow big.
