Hello I have an ASUS P5K motherboard with a dedicated spdif out for 192/24 digital output will this be of sufficient quality to feed the spdif input of the Buffalo 32? any limitations on cable length? I need approx 10 meters. http://no.asus.com/produ...del=1749&modelmenu=1best Leif

While there is no such thing as "the" Azalia chip the Asus P5K uses an Realtek ALC888 chip that is compatible with the Intel® High Definition Audio Specification codenamed Azalia :-)
I just build a Win 7 machine which has the same Realtek chip and using Jriver Media player with the WASAPI output method works flawless. My motherboard only has a coax connection and that works up to 24/192 in bit transparent mode without a problem.

I am willing to bet that the coax goes up to 192/24, but that the optical only goes to 96kHz max.

hello
tried taking the signal from the ASUS P5K-E motherboard spdif hd audio output(which says enabled in BIOS and sound devices) and feeding to the Buffalo 9008 spdif input.
all works fine with redbook wav files,but the xx.player cannot play som hi-rez 24/96 files I have gotten from a friend
the xx-player has a dac test function that states the dac is only up to redbook sampling!any ideas why?
any setting I missed on sound devices?
under formats in sound devices there are 3 options: DTS/dolby/windows wma pro ...which one to use?

The limitation is then probably with your CODEC(sound chipset) which is producing the SPDIF not the DAC. This most likely is a configuration issue. The software has no way of knowing what the DAC will or will not support. :) Edited by user Friday, June 5, 2009 3:59:28 AM(UTC)

I'm feeding my Buffalo via the onboard Realtek card (Realtek ALC885 High Definition) with no problems whatsoever up to 24/192.
This is using Vista 64bit -> Foobar2000 -> WASAPI -> Coaxial (bit-perfect) digital out.

vista ultimate 32 bit now it works! had to uninstall the ad soundmax software with the blackhawk add-ons then I was allowed to adjust lots of parameters in the sound devices and finally it plays whatever I throw at it! best Leif Edited by user Friday, June 5, 2009 3:06:07 PM(UTC)
