I have received Buffalo32 and finished assembling.
I connected a HTPC via Toslink and it sounds marvelous, but I have couple of problems to solve.
1. It does not play 24/96khz files. Just some crackling noise. It plays 44.1khz and 48khz very well though, and sound incredable.
2. Volumite does not work. It always plays in the full output regardless of volume position. I connected 4 wires to Buffalo32, and vcc pin reads 3.3v ok.

hkminn, I've had the same problem with MacMini's, it will not play24/96, well it will with the new Buffalo32s, but has pops and clicks and skips the beginning of tracks because it cannot get a lock. There is loads on stuff in these forums on this. It is odd, because we have several other 'not - MacMini' Macs here and they all work fine...It just doesn;t seem to latch onto some outputs. I've not tried the S/PDIF Mux yet, I cannot think it will really make much difference, but I've got a spare one now so I may well give it a go. As per Volumite... Have you removed the MCU from the DAC and are using the correct chip (Buffalo32s) in the Volumite and is it in the right way round? Also how are you powering the Volumite? 1) What is the source? Also are you going directly into D1? Or are you using the SPDIF comparator input? 2) Hmm this sounds like either the on-board controller is not removed, or there is a wiring issue. All the problems are solved!!
Volumite problem, I did not removed the controller chip on the Buffalo32 Board. My ignorance.
About 24/96khz files, I tried with another soundcard(Onkyo) and it works very well. Now, I will hack the sound card and try direct I2S input on Buffallo32. But it already sounds wonderful with Toslink.

I have found, by accident, that turning off 'Secure Memory' in the Mac Mini Security Preferences, got rid of most of the pops and clicks between tracks on my MacMini via Toslink to Buff32s, even at 24/96. You have to reboot between changes. I still have occasional problems at the start of tracks where the sound stutters initially, but this maybe the external hardrive and USB connection?
I suspect this could be a memory or processor speed related thing. My Mac Mini is quite old...
