Hi!
I have an issue with Buffalo II DAC, the lock goes on and off with high resolution files.
It is advised to flash the Bufallo II with alternative firmware.
Does anybody know where to get that firmware and how to actually do it?
I already changed USB input from Amanero to XMOS 216 chip...
Then realised the lock problem on BII is the real issue.

The "High-Bandwidth" version of the firmware is available on the Volumite page (http://www.twistedpearaudio.com/control/volumite.aspx) at the bottom.
Does your Buffalo-II have a 80 or 100MHz clock?

Is 80 or 100 MHz clock changeable or there are 2 versions of Buffalo II?

Actually, my mistake. We used 80MHz clocks in the early version of the Buffalo I, but had moved on the 100MHz for all Buffalo II and beyond, so that should not be a factor for you. Here is the HBW version HEX file in case you can flash it yourself:  Buffalo_II_on_board.hex (3kb) downloaded 7 time(s).Edited by user Tuesday, December 8, 2020 4:43:30 PM(UTC)

Hi Brian, Thank you for the HEX file and your fast reply. Shortening I2S wires to less than 1cm helped. Also isolating USB input from the chassis helped. But still problem exists with HR files, dropping out of lock. How to flash it myself? I tried to find it online, but it is nowhere to be found. Does BII connect to the HEX file through DAC USB input? Sorry, I'm not much of a PC guy

Guys, does anybody know the answer?
How to flash Buffalo II with alternative firmware???
If I can not flash Buffalo II with alternative firmware, then next step is
taking it out and replacing it with DIYINHK 9038 board.
I just don't know what else to do.
I replaced amanero with XMOS 216 for nothing.
Issue was buffalo II lock.

Hi, sorry, didn't see this.
You need a uController programmer to flash the firmware(I use an AVR Dragon). If you don't have a programmer, I can send you a pre-programmed chip.

Does uController connect to AVC header directly on Buffalo II,
or it connects through USB input of the DAC?
I have USB input with XMOS XU216 chip.

The 8-pin chip in a socket on the DAC is an AVR uController that controls the DAC. This is what you need to program with the HEX file. To program it, you remove it from the DAC and put it in your programmer of choice and push the hex file.
It is much easier to just get a replacement chip if you don't have the tools on hand.
