Hello guys.

Lately I have been using raspberry pi as a network streamer. I prefer the sound compared to using amanero usb from a computer with JRMC. But that is another story.

I am thinking of upgrading from a lcdps powering the rpi to a placid hd using large off board heatsinks.
The current consumption on my rpi is far below the 2A that is recommended by the PI guys. From what I understand this is due to the fact that I dont use any USB devices wich is the main power consumer on these miniputers.

I finished building my friends dual mono dac using placid hd to power the two DAC boards that use about 450mA
Using some homemade alu profiles these dont go above 50c, so no problem at all. And that is not even a proper heatsink...

From what I understand from the info on the rpi site I found that my config should require a little more, but not that much more than that. It should be well below 1A, more like 500-600mA

My question is: would it be possible to use the placid hd v2.1 with lets say up to 1A when using a large heatsink?

If you can keep it cool it will ok.

But do keep an eye on the temperature. Remember to monitor the rectifier bridge a well. It also can run hot.

I`ll have a look at it. Perhaps mount it underneath the PCB so that I can use some alu to transfer heat from it to the chassis or something.
