No worries, I can imagine with two jobs and some demanding costumers Angel

To be sure I think you mean these ones.

And can I use them with overlap of do I only pick one terminal?

Nice it works!

It's a more elegant solution than the LED in line.

When my new molex krimp connectors arrive I will make shielded twisted pairs of the data wires.

Thanks for the add Brian!

Do you mean WaveIO I2S isolator chip needs lower voltage? I tried to simply disconnect isolator power, then disconnected entire I2S connection as well - no changes to the interference i'm seeing at Placid outputs...This is clearly reaction of Placid to WaveIO as the load. Checked with simple 7805 linear regulator again - perfect flat line.

Sorry to hear it's not your solution. But indeed sourcing the correct voltages can do no harm.

Have you played with ground connections?
Can't remember if you use a casing at the moment but you can play around with it via the mounting studs or so.
Does the noise stays or remain the same with different shunt settings? My placid began to clip above a certain (shunt)current.

It's your thread again ;)

Yes, you're right d'oh! I measured again while changing shunted current and the less shunt there is the smaller the "distortion". With 0mA it's completely gone...

I measure with "naked" waveio with only +5V power from Placid connected (I2S lines, isolator power, USB - all disconnected).

Thanks Jordo, I should've tried it long ago, at least now i'm getting somewhere..

Brian, can you please tell if it's ok to power isolator chip from 3.3V available at BIIIse I2C connector?

Ah ok,

I'm happy for you that it does work!
Better late then never as we say in Holland Angel

But if you shunt down the current to zero the voltage collapses as you might have noticed.
For the Isolated output that means a lower voltage with moderate Shunt Current.

It is specified to use at least a 0,5A PSU for the board.
I had my placid adjusted to a total current of 560mA shunting almost half of it.
This caused some noise.

Attached you find pictures I received a while ago from Lucian about the actual max power usage (at 32 bits @ 384 Khz playback) of the WaveIO and in idle.
As you can see it's approx 100mA below 0,5A.
Hope it helps you determining how much of headroom you will offer to the WaveIO.

Yes, I talked to Lucian also and it's the reason I was shunting 100mA, but in my case - anything above 7mA of shunted current results in distortion which is proportional to the current shunted.

Are you sure you don't have it anymore? As you decrease shunted current - the distortion gets smaller and "disappear" from scope's screen until you switch it to smaller measurement range. Try measuring at 20-10mV and 0.2-0.5us...

Anyway - the capacitor at waveIO power input is my solution for now.

P.S. Actually I even see some distortion (noise) at Placid 2.1 powering Buffalo IIIse, but a very small one - 6-8mV and very-very high in frequency. Still puts some other PSUs i have to shame :) And Placid BP is a beauty to behold though - rock-solid flat line at any range I can measure :)

Yes indeed.
I don't have a hi-tech scope but I cán destiguish a sharp flat line from a blurred one.

All the PSU's are flat. Even the WaveIO's.
The one for the Teleporter/ Isolator circuit is nearly a sharp flat line after I applied the correct voltage.

It's not as sharp as the V2.1 PSU's but I don't know how a V1 Placid should act. Did not measured before upgrading them.

Maybe if I use a better scope still some noise would be seen but it improved so mutch that I believe it's improved.

See the picture below. It was measured at .50.
At .20 I lost the signal from the monitor.
After the voltage was reduced this line became flat but a bit unsharp in comparrison with the V2 PSU's.

I'm going to concentrate on the PSU of the PC now.
I'm thinking that you could also check the distortion with a laptop instead of a PC to see if that will influence the noise. Than you know if the source is clean because a laptop (on a battery) must have clean power.

Oeps I'm not paying attention Eh? . You had noise also with a 'naked' WaveIO

Hmmmm,

Yesterday while Trouble Shooting another issue again some noise was on the placids output for the WaveIO Main Power.

Keeping the shunt current down at approx 60mA will tame it a little.

The Scope can be stable at higher shunt currents and suddenly get disrupted.
Only Power down- power up can solve this.
At lower shunt currents when the PSU gets disrupted it will stabilize after the music is pauzed for a few seconds.

Leon already wrote that high shunt currents will cause noise.
With 320mA power usage at idle you could shunt +60mA and keep it stable.
This adds to 380mA max power output while the waveIO requires 401mA max at high bitrates.
And even this max power consumption you want to give some headroom.

Which leaves me to wonder if the Placid is a suitable Power Supply for the WaveIO.....

Did you try capacitor in parallel with the load? (simply add it to waveio's power IN socket, check polarity though) between + and GND. 68-100uF will do, but make sure it's good one.

Unless TPA guys can suggest something to change on Placid itself - I see cap as the best solution...

No I haven't yet.
I will take a look if I have a capacitor.
What kind do you use? How many Volts?

On another forum someone say's that Shunt regulatros are not suitable for digital equipment like the WaveIO. According to him the WaveIO has several voltage regulators itself.

But I rather use the Placids. They provide real clean power.

Thanks!

Thanks! Rock solid now.
Even with higher Shunt Currents!
