Hi
Would be the WM8804 configurable for 20bit I2S output? I would like to use the module for feeding AD1862 DAC's. I know that the chip is configurable to 16 or 24bits output, but between...?
Thanks for advice!

Check page 35 of the WM8804 specs pdf. Basically, it says that when the bits are less than 24 and the device is in 24 bit mode it adds zeroes for the least significant bits. If it is in 16 bit mode the signal will be truncated from, say, 20 to 16. The other thing is that it is possible the WM8804 will truncate a 24 bit word to fewer bits if the MAXWL and RXWL say it is fewer than 24 bits. I am not familiar enough with the SPDIF standard to say what those will be. Upon transmitting over I2S it looks like those words will be padded with zeroes to get back up to 24 bit. That's how I read it anyway. v Edited by user Tuesday, September 29, 2015 4:59:50 PM(UTC)

Didn't realize your dac is 20 bit. No idea what would happen if you give it 24 or 16 bit input. But the above analysis still stands.
