Hi,
I plan to build a multichannel DAC solution for active crosser: I need 4 channels for my 2-way speakers. I only found the minidsp usbstreamer solution as multichannel input to be connected to one Buffalo III. If ever someone knows about another way to connect my mac mini to the Buffalo, thank you to share!
Still, if the use of usbstreamer is the way to go, I would like to have a proper global sync and isolation from the PC side. I understand it is possible with Cronus and Hermes, with a little bit of tweaking as there is no dedicated hermes board for usbstreamer. Still, I am not sure whether I should order the Hermès-BBB or Hermes-Amanero as a basis for these tweaks.
Any recommendation?

I don't think the USBStreamer will work with Hermes/Cronus, as there is no CS (Clock Select) output or the ability to set it as MCK slave to the Cronus.

Thanks for the fast answer. I will then first begin with a simple setup

You could do this with a BBB/Hermes/Cronus :)

If ever there were a simple way to implement crossover filters and room corrections in BBB, that would definitely be the way to go! Unfortunately, I fear it is not the case. Let me know if you decide to design a proper multichannel usb->i2s board... it would interest a lot of people!

I have ordered the simplest Buffalo III setup, together with an usbstreamer... I will see how it sounds. Now I have a doubt about the output, and I can not find a proper answer on any forums: I did not order any IVY board, thinking I could directly connect the outputs of Buffalo III to unbuffered hypex UCDs (they have 1,8kOhm input impedance, no input buffer, no input caps). Am I wrong? How much? Edited by user Thursday, July 2, 2015 9:22:32 PM(UTC)
