Hi,

I'd like to isolate both I2S and I2C lines of my Buffalo III.
I planned to use:
- I2C: ADuM2250
- I2S: Si8660

The only question, where should I get the Buffolo-side power for them?
- I2C: I planned to use the I2C header 3.3V, as the original MCU is removed and the ADuM2250 requires only max. 5mA supply current, according to specs. Is this ok?
- I2S: I'm using 6 audio channels, so 5 lines to driver in total, according to datasheet, Si8660 would require around 30-40mA in total. Can I supply this current from VDCC, or that would go above limits of the Trident regulator? If no, can/should I install another trident for this purpose?

At on end of the I2S connector, there are two pins labeled "VD" - is this the 5V input?

Hi,

I isolate i2c and i2s as well, i use diyhnk board (integrated i2c and i2s on one board) and supply it with 3,3V from buffalo i2c connector. Works fine for me

Hi Tomasz,

thanks for your answer! I'm still wondering though, if the on-board regulator powering the the i2c lines (and I guess the original atmel microcontroller) is powerful enough to drive my total 35-45mA isolation. (probably it's lower in practice, but it's better to be prepared :)). I checked and that atmel chip barely eats half a mA, so I'm not feeling this step up safe :)

It'd be great to have some information about that on-board regulator and how much current can it supply.
I'd be also interested if sound-wise it would be better to use this i2c 3.3V supply, or the VD connector, or possibly another regulator?

The vreg on the Buffalo is a LD1117S33TR. It is rated for 950mA, so should have no issue whatsoever with your setup.
